Last week was Bay State Bike Week, the annual celebration of human-powered, two-wheeled transportation in Massachusetts. Individuals, community groups, companies, and local governments organized all kinds of events ranging from bike safety rodeos for kids to group rides to bike trivia nights. This year, there were 119 registered events, and over 12,000 event participants statewide.

Here is just a sampling of photos from all the amazing events that took place last week. A big thank you to all of the event organizers who sent us photos!

Let's start things off with Bike Friday, the City of Boston's monthly bike festival on City Hall Plaza:



In Worcester, WalkBike Worcester, Mass in Motion, MA Dept. of Environmental Protection, and Central Mass. Regional Planning Commission hosted the Bike Commuter Breakfast on Worcester Common:

In Andover, Merrimack Valley Transportation Management Association and Junction Transportation Management Organization sponsored Andover Parklet Day, and City Manager Buzz Stapczynski stopped by on his bike commute to work!

This year “Team Ellenzweig”, of Ellenzweig Architecture & Planning, grew to eight people, and have already logged over 300 miles in the MassCommute Bicycle Challenge! Way to go!



On Tuesday, MassBike showed some love to afternoon commuters in Cambridge. We setup an "Air & Oil" station at the foot of the Mass Ave. bridge near MIT for commuters heading home from Boston into Cambridge:



Northampton hosted its annual Commuter Breakfast, and Mayor David Narkewicz showed up to speak!



On Thursday, MassBike set up a Commuter Breakfast on the Southwest Corridor in Boston. For those who stopped by, we had some doughnuts and delicious cold brew coffee, generously donated by Render Coffee. We gave out all sorts of Bay State Bike Week goodies like t-shirts, bells, and ankle reflectors. We also cheered on the hundreds of people riding their bikes to work who passed by our station.

Harvard University hosted their Bike Breakfast, complete with on site bike tune-ups:



And in Greenfield, Franklin Regional Council of Governments hosted their Bike Breakfast at the John Olver Transit Center:



Meanwhile in Brockton, bike commuters were treated to breakfast and Bay State Bike Week goodies at Brockton Bike to Work Day, hosted by Old Colony Planning Council.



Springfield had a multitude of events throughout the week, hosted by MassBike and our partners Pioneer Valley Planning Commission and LiveWell Springfield. Here is the happy recipient of a brand new bike helmet!



Capping off the week on Sunday, the annual Brookline Bike Parade rolled down Beacon Street, with festivities afterwards at Amory Park.
