Pioneer Valley Bike Week is May 15th-23rd, 2010. This is the perfect time to get out of our cars and try bicycling to work, school, on errands, and for fun. All around the valley, there will be group rides, free bike workshops, bike breakfasts, film screenings, and many more ways to get involved, learn new skills, and have some cycling fun!

Saturday, May 15
Northampton: Baystate Village Bike Bonanza: 1-4pm at Maines Field, 570 Riverside Drive. Tune-ups, bicycle decorating, Pedal People trailers to try out, safety clinic, games, and prizes.
Sunday, May 16
Hadley: Bird and Nature Bike Tour with David King: 9-10am. Meet at the north end of the West Street commons by the dike.
Leeds: Ride for Hotel Bridge: Help save the historic Hotel Bridge in Leeds! There’s a ride for everyone: a family fun ride at 10am, a 25 mile scenic ride at 9am, or a 50 mile challenge ride at 8am. All rides begin at ChartPak, Inc, 1 River Road (across from the Leeds Post Office) and end at the Leeds Hotel Bridge for food and fun! Registration begins at 7:30am, or contact Alice Badecker or Stephy Cho at (413)341-3830.

Amherst: The Art of Bicycling: Opening Event of Amherst BikeFilmFest: Jones Library, 43 Amity Street

- 6:00pm Bike Poetry: Discussion of cycling and poetry in Emily Dickinson’s Amherst. North Carolina Poet Karen Jo Shapiro will read “Because I Could Not Stop My Bike.”
- 6:15pm Commuter Award: Alice Swift will present the 1st Annual Arthur Swift Memorial Bicycle Commuter Award to Ken Hoffman on behalf of the Amherst Energy Conservation TaskForce.
- 6:30pm Film: Return of the Scorcher (1992) followed by an update on the Critical Mass movement by local filmmaker, Ted White
- 7:30pm Film: The Bicyclists (2010): The Bicyclists movie, inspired by The Bicyclist web series, reinvents the story, keeping some of the same quirky comedy, but the drama goes much deeper.

Amherst: Bike Film Fest 2010: 9am-9pm at Jones Library, 43 Amity Street. Four separate sessions:
- 9-11am, Short films about bike facilities in cities around the world,
- 12-1:30pm, Fixing the Great Mistake (2010), Taken for a Ride (1996)
The Story of Stuff (2007) and several short films, - 2:45-4:30pm, Short films for the young & young at heart about the global love affair with bicycling,
- 6-10pm, Short films about bicycling and bike advocacy and a full-length feature film.

Friday, May 21
Amherst: Breakfast and WRSI Radio Show: 7-10:30am on the Town Common.
Amherst: Bird n’ Beaver Twilight Ride: 6pm. Meet on the North Common, ride will be on the Norwottuck Rail Trail to Station Road and back. Bring: a bike with headlight & taillight (the Amherst Police will have a few taillights available), insect repellent, a jacket, binoculars & field guide (we can share), notebook and pen, something to drink. Children 16 and under must wear a helmet. Note: there are no restrooms on the trail. Please RSVP to lmg07@yahoo.com.
