MassBike/Pioneer Valley is a chapter of MassBike, the statewide bicycle advocacy non-profit organization.

Find out about our recent victories and challenges in campaign updates.

Check out our events calendar.

Our region includes the urban centers of Springfield and Holyoke; the rural hilltowns in the Eastern Berkshires; the cities of Greenfield, Northampton, and Amherst; the Five Colleges (Amherst, Hampshire, Mt. Holyoke, Smith, and UMass Amherst); and numerous other communities in Hampshire, Hampden, and Franklin Counties.

Our goals are to:

  • Form a visible, vocal, and effective coalition of bike advocates throughout the Pioneer Valley.
  • Support bike- and pedestrian-friendly legislation in our towns.
  • Establish bicycle/pedestrian/transportation committees in every town in the region.
  • Make our roads safer for cyclists through education programs for both drivers and bicyclists.
  • Fight for bicycle- and pedestrian-friendly infrastructure on our roads and in our communities: bike lanes; bike paths; RailTrails; bike parking; wide sidewalks; public open space and parks; etc.
  • Defend livable communities and lifestyles by offering alternatives to automobile dependence, including public transportation.
  • Enact traffic calming (speed humps, "neckdowns," etc.) in our neighborhoods.
Two of Northampton's mountain bike patrol enjoy a free breakfast during Northampton Bike Commute Day 2000.
