1. December 9 meeting minutes
2. January 13 meeting time, place, and agenda
3. Future meeting time: 7:00 PM, 2nd Wednesday of each month
Dear Pioneer Valley cyclist,
Happy New Year! I hope everyone has entered 1999 in good health and
spirits.
1. Minutes from the December 9 meeting are posted on the WWW page
(http://www.massbike.org/groups/mbpv/). Briefly, some high points
included:
* The Northampton Bike/Ped Committee petition has over 150 signatures and
continues to collect more. Northampton City Councilor Fran Volkmann has
agreed to sponsor a resolution to form the committee.
* MassHighway's plans to renovate and expand the Calvin Coolidge Memorial
Bridge do not include any plans to accommodate bikes, apart from the
minimum requirement of 4.5-meter "outside lane" width (12-foot
travel lane + 2.5-foot shoulder). We are actively trying to ameliorate
this situation via negotiation with MassHighway and with elected
officials. It's an uphill battle, but an important one (have *you* tried
riding across the Norwottuck RT bridge this week?).
2. The next MB/PV meeting will take place:
Date: Wed, 13 Jan. 1999
Time: 7:00 PM
Place: Room 304, Seelye Hall, Smith College, Northampton
Preliminary Agenda
(email james@velo.phast.umass.edu with add'l items):
---------------------------------------------------------------
* Identification of PV Hot Spots
* Bicycle Pavilion (Hadley Bike Museum) -- Vicki Elson/Matt Blumenfeld
* Northampton Cycling Club -- John Frey
* RailTrail updates
* Progress report and action plan for Bike/Ped Committees (Northampton,
Agawam...)
* Update on Hadley Route 9 shortcuts -- Dave Crout?
* Route 9 Coolidge Bridge update and action plan (Rosenberg meeting; media
contacts; MassHighway responses; critical mass ride)
* Organize breakfast with elected officials (Olver, Storey, Flavin,
Rosenberg, Neal, Nagle, etc.) to put forth our general agenda?
+++ As always, refreshments will be served +++
3. Future meeting time and place
In the interest of simplicity and regularity, we decided at the December
meeting to set a fixed meeting schedule. Henceforth, the MassBike/Pioneer
Valley Chapter meetings will be held:
7:00 PM, 2nd Wednesday of each month
Until further notice, meetings will be held in Seelye Hall, Smith College,
Northampton.
----------------------------------------------------
That's all for now -- see you on Wednesday the 13th!
