John Gregory Wald, 35: Editor for Harvard publications

A funeral will be held today for John Gregory Wald, an editor, writer and photographer, who died Sunday in an avalanche on Mount Washington in New Hampshire. He was 35.

Mr. Wald was born in Boston. He graduated from Wesleyan University and earned a master's degree in comparative literature at the University of Michigan.

He was an editor, feature writer and photographer for several publications at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government in Cambridge.

A technical rock climber who pioneered several new routes in the Adirondack Mountains, he was a skier and outdoorsman and a member of the Sierra Club, the Appalachian Mountain Club, the Nature Conservancy and the Bicycle Coalition of Massachusetts.

He leaves his father, Stephen L., of Telluride, Colo.; his mother, Gail Calder of Spencertown, N.Y.; a sister, Alison B. Wald of Providence; his stepfather, Frederick C. Calder of Lake Placid, N.Y.; three stepbrothers, Grant Calder and Peter Calder of Philadelphia and Wynn Calder of Cambridge.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. in the Class of 1959 Chapel at Harvard Business School in Boston. Burial will be in Sharon Memorial Park.
