Tuesday, May 27
Public Meeting: West Bridgewater, Hockomock River Bridge Replacement Project
Time: 7:00 PM
Location: The Howard School Cafeteria, 70 Howard Street, West Bridgewater, MA
Description: MassDOT will host this meeting. According to MassDOT, "The purpose of this project is to replace the existing bridge structure on Route 106 (West Center Street) spanning the Hockomock River to address the structural deficiencies present and provide accommodations for bicycles and pedestrians within the project limits. Bicycle accommodations will be provided by useable shoulders in accordance with applicable design guides." Read more.
Construction Alert: East Arlington, Massachusetts Ave
Time: All day
Location: Cambridge city line to Pond Lane, Arlington, MA
Description: According to the Town of Arlington: "MassDOT's East Arlington Mass. Ave. Rebuild is starting. Expect to see construction signs and pre-construction activity to begin along the route starting the week of May 27th, with construction beginning later in June. The primary goal of the project is to upgrade the aging infrastructure and improve safety for all users. This will include resurfacing the road, rebuilding sidewalks, replacing outdated traffic signals, adding crosswalks and bump-outs for pedestrians, and bike lanes for bike riders. Public Forum: Boston, "State of the Green Line"
Time: 6:00 PM
Location: Boston Public Library, Rabb Lecture Hall, Boylston Street, Boston, MA
Description: Transit riders and bicyclists often share common concerns. This forum, hosted by State Senator William Brownsberger, will address rider concerns about service and capacity issues. MBTA General Manager Dr. Beverly Scott will attend, accompanied by a panel of MBTA personnel to answer questions and hear concerns from riders. This is an opportunity to speak up for bicycle access on the Green Line, the only MBTA line that does not allow bikes on board at any time. With the MBTA committed to spending $118 million on new Green Line cars, set to hit the tracks by 2017, now is the time to speak up. Event: MassCommute Bicycle Challenge Bike Bash
Time: 5:30 PM
Location: Flat Top Johnnies, 1 Kendall Square, Cambridge, MA
Description: The Bike Bash is the event wrap up party which celebrates the conclusion of the MassCommute Bicycle Challenge! All Challenge participants are invited to join in on the celebration. The Bash is an opportunity to acknowledge and award winning teams and all riders! There will also be a raffle with over $3,000 in prizes. Read more.
Event: 5th Annual Ciclismo Classico Bike Travel Film Festival
Time: 6:00 PM
Location: The Regent Theatre, 7 Medford St., Arlington, MA
Description: There’s plenty of wild adventure at the 5th Annual Ciclismo Classico Bike Travel Film Festival. The Festival, a benefit for MassBike, presents 10 short films featuring two-wheeled travels around the globe – and this year’s journeys are the most exotic yet. From lava-fields in Iceland to abandoned wilderness roads in Kyrgystan, 2014 takes viewers further than ever before. One of the filmmakers, Charles R. Scott (the “Family Adventure Guy”), circumnavigated Iceland with his 10 year old son and 4 year old daughter. Charles will be present at the event for an informal Q&A during intermission.
In addition to the films, a festive atmosphere is on tap at this most-anticipated Bike Month event. A social hour begins at 6 PM and features a Cookie Showcase highlighting the delicious offering of local bakeries. Also included is the “Great Jersey Giveaway” raffle, which will outfit winning guests with bike clothing for their next adventure. One lucky attendee will win a free Ciclismo Classico bicycle vacation valued at over $3,500. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door. Order tickets here.

Public Meeting: Dorchester, Mt. Vernon Street Redesign
Time: 6:00 PM
Location: Corcoran Mullens Jennison Community Building, 270 Mount Vernon Street, Dorchester, MA
Description. This BRA-hosted meeting will focus on roadway layout, open space, and wayfinding. Plans for this street redesign may include physically separated cycle tracks. MassBike encourages area residents to attend the meeting and speak favorably about the idea of including cycle tracks in the final design. Public Meeting: Southampton, Sidewalk Construction on Routes 5, 9 & 10
Time: 7:00 PM
Location: Norris Elementary School, 34 Pomeroy Meadow Road, Southampton, MA
Description. This is a MassDOT hosted meeting. According to MassDOT, "The purpose of this meeting is to provide the public with the opportunity to become fully acquainted with the proposed Amherst- Hadley- Northampton-Southampton- West Brookfield- Sidewalk & Wheelchair Ramp Construction on Routes 5, 9, & 10 project. The proposed project consists of sidewalks, ramps, crosswalks and associated safety signalization and signs to provide an accessible and ADA/AAB code-compliant passage for pedestrians. The proposed improvements will provide a safer environment for motorists and pedestrians during anticipated traffic conditions." Read more.
