5 Easy Ways You Can Make an Impact with Lights Brigade
The days are shorter, and the nights are longer, but that doesn't mean the biking season has ended! With MassBike’s Lights Brigade, sponsored by Jeffrey Glassman Injury Lawyers, you can help keep bicyclists safe and seen during dark hours. By distributing free bike lights, you’re empowering your community to ride safely, no matter the time of day.
As a Lights Brigade volunteer host, MassBike will send you all the materials you’ll need to make your event a success. All you need to do is pick your venue and invite your friends to join your LIT party.
Here are 5 easy ways you can make an impact with Lights Brigade
1. Plan a distribution event along your commute
Do you bike the same route every day? Turn your commute into an opportunity to make a difference. Set up a quick pop-up event at a high-traffic spot along your route and distribute lights to riders who need them. It’s a simple way to brighten someone’s day (and bike)!
2. Host with your local trails group or bike club
Team up with your favorite trails group or cycling club for a Lights Brigade event. Whether you plan to distribute lights after your weekend ride or a community event, this is a perfect chance to combine forces and spread awareness about bike safety.
3. Host it outside your office
Want to get your co-workers involved? Follow the lead of groups like IBM employees who hosted their own light distribution event (shown in the photo above). Rally your team and set up a Lights Brigade station outside your office to give lights to bicyclists passing by. It’s a great way to connect and give back to your local community!
4. Carry Lights with You!
You never know when you’ll meet someone needing a bike light. Keep a few lights in your bag, ready to hand out while riding or walking around town. It’s a small gesture that can make a big difference for someone biking at night.
5. Brighten up your neighbors!
Lights Brigade isn’t just about strangers—it’s also a chance to connect with your community. Host an event on your block to share lights with neighbors, friends, and family members who bike. It’s a great conversation starter and a reminder of how we can look out for one another.
