A Year of Biking Joy in Worcester

As 2024 comes to a close, I’ve been reflecting on the incredible impact we’ve made this year at MassBike, particularly here in Worcester. Thanks to generous grants from MassCEC and the Barr Foundation and the support of donors like you, we’ve been able to accomplish so much.

2024 Highlights from Worcester

Bay State Bike Month
This year, we hosted or participated in six events to celebrate Bay State Bike Month. From a Bike Month Proclamation at City Hall to a Bike Swap and Breakfast, each event brought together the biking community in new and exciting ways. My personal highlight was the Graduation Ceremony for the First Cohort of E-Bikers, a truly moving event where participants shared how the program changed their lives. Their stories of rediscovered confidence, freedom, and community reminded me why we do this work.

Monthly Community Rides
Throughout the summer, we organized monthly themed rides to promote Worcester’s first parking-protected bike lanes. These rides averaged 39 participants of all ages and abilities, creating opportunities to explore the city safely on two wheels. The Father’s Day Ride stands out as a favorite—entire families came together to experience the joy of biking while taking in the beauty of Coes Park

.

E-Bike Program Expansion
Our e-bike program grew to include ten additional communities, introducing income-based rebates of 60–75%. This expansion not only made e-bikes more accessible but also provided a boost to local bike shops, helping them reach new customers and grow their businesses. Programs like this require collaboration and community support, and we couldn’t be prouder of what we achieved together.

Let’s Keep the Momentum Going

None of these accomplishments would be possible without the collective effort of our community. Your support helps us expand access to biking, build safer infrastructure, and bring transformative programs to cities and towns across Massachusetts.

Will you help us by donating today? Even better, share this blog with five friends and encourage them to join you in supporting MassBike.

Together, we can ensure a brighter, bike-friendly future for Worcester and beyond.
