Event Recap: MassBike Volunteer Day at Bike to the Sea Bike Kitchen

On Saturday, August 10, 2024, MassBike staff and volunteers joined Bike to the Sea (B2C) to support their Bike Kitchen on the Northern Strand Bike Path. The B2C Bike Kitchen is a community space that holds weekly “shop hours” to provide people with bike stands, tools, and free spare parts to fix their bikes.

On Saturdays, Bike to the Sea has open bike shop hours from 10:00am-1:00pm. During open shop hours, cyclists passing by can stop in for any basic tools to fix their bikes. Our volunteers worked with Agnes Recato, B2C’s Program Manager, and several of B2C’s regular volunteers.

We welcomed folks in by offering free swag, bike lights, and bells. Then we guided folks to a well-organized tool wall. Our more experienced volunteers gave guidance on mechanical issues. It was wonderful to see how beneficial this type of resource is to the Malden community. The environment was warm and welcoming.

You can learn more about Bike to the Sea’s Bike Kitchen at biketothesea.org/bk/ and visit them during bike shop hours on Saturdays and Wednesday evenings.

MassBike will be setting up more volunteer events with bike-friendly non-profit organizations! If you’d like to join us, reach out to [email protected] to be added to our volunteer list.
