Green Commutes Fair: Building a More Bike-Friendly Worcester

For the third year in a row, MassBike was happy to be part of the UMass Chan Green Commutes Fair on Tuesday morning, April 28th—this time joined by WRTA, the Worcester Department of Transportation and Mobility, CMRPC, Worcester Earn-A-Bike, and WalkBike Worcester—to celebrate and share sustainable ways to get around Worcester.

We couldn’t have asked for better weather, and the campus community really showed up. The whole space felt lively and welcoming, with conversations unfolding everywhere, plenty of laughter, and that easy sense of connection that makes these events so special.

A real crowd favorite was Wicked Wheels, who brought electric bikes and scooters for test rides. There was a steady flow of curiosity, smiles, and lots of “I could totally see myself using this” moments as people explored new ways to move around the city.

At our table, we had the chance to talk with so many folks about what MassBike does and the work happening locally to make biking and walking safer and more accessible. We were especially excited to welcome 19 new people who signed up to stay connected with our work—great to have you with us!

The morning flew by in the best way. From start to finish, it was one of those events filled with good energy, meaningful conversations, and a shared sense that Worcester is continuing to move toward a more connected, active, and sustainable future.

This is why our work matters: because every safer street, every new rider, and every small shift toward active transportation helps build a city where getting around is healthier, more affordable, and more accessible for everyone.
