As part of a worldwide movement, WalkBike Springfield and Holyoke’s Biking and Pedestrian Committee are hosting a 2024 World Day of Remembrance tribute to the 35 individuals who perished on Hampden County roadways in the past year and the over 100 others who suffer from serious injury. The event honors the 8 pedestrians, 10 motorcyclists, and 17 other roadway fatalities.

Public officials, including Springfield City Council president Michael Fenton and State Senator Jake Oliveira, and others from Hampden County communities will be speaking about current efforts to redesign our roadways and other activities for safety.

We will be recognizing all of the victims with yellow shoes as at other World Day of Remembrance events, and encouraging those who knew them to say a few words. Attendees are encouraged to wear yellow in recognition of the World Day of Remembrance.
