Job Opportunity: MassBike Cycling Instructors Needed All Over The State!

MassBike is seeking passionate and engaging cycling instructors to implement our “Safe Routes to Schools", bicycle education clinics, workshops, group rides and other events.

MassBike’s instructors also work in local schools and community centers to host both on-bike and presentation-style safe cycling education. Our learn to ride education programming starts at K-1 and continues all the way to adults and seniors throughout Massachusetts. 

Cycling instructors are trained on the MassBike curriculum, and implement programs along with other MassBike staff, and we are seeking instructors in the 5 regions of the state. 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide instruction on safe and legal bicycling, and basic bicycle maintenance and repairs
  • Provide instruction on basic bike riding skills for a variety of ages and abilities. 
  • Collaborate with our partners in the school systems and community centers across the state to plan bike education programs and events
  • Track participation, class schedules, attendance and inventory of class materials and equipment
  • Provide regular assessments of participants to track effectiveness of the program

 

Requirements:

Public speaking in group dynamics and communication skills are critical. An appreciation of bicycle culture is especially important. Personal skills and the ability to work with a team are particularly appreciated. 

  • Must pass a CORI and SORI background check 
  • Must be able to ride a bicycle proficiently
  • Must be excited to work with youth and adults of all backgrounds
  • Must be professional, friendly, and outgoing
  • Must be comfortable working in a variety of settings, including outdoors
  • Must be reliable, consistent, organized and prompt
  • Experience in educational settings is not required but will be considered
  • Experience with bicycle maintenance and repair skills is not required but will be considered
  • Must have ability to travel around the state either by car or public transportation
  • Must be available by email or phone on a regular basis

Time Commitment:

Pay rate is $30/hr. This is a part-time position that can be weekday afternoons/evenings, and weekends. Depending on the current program and area of work, hours may go up to 30 hrs per week based on staff availability and capacity in May and June. The best part?
