Pioneer Valley Chapter Update - September 2018
This Pioneer Valley Chapter update has been provided by Chapter President Alex Weck:
In the Pioneer Valley, our bike valet team has been busy with September events.
We provided our bike valet services at a four-part Mill Pond concert series as well as the Arcadia Folk Fest. We greeted 50 to 100 bicyclists each weekend! With our support, the events do a great job to encourage attendees to ride their bikes instead of traveling by car to see free music outdoors.
In our advocacy support, MassBike PV continues to work closely with planners and engineers in Hampden County to build out the Connecticut River Walk and Bikeway. This Riverway and linear park offers 2 sections of paved paths for walking and biking The longest stretches 3.7 miles from the Chicopee town line to the South End Bridge in Springfield. Unique features of this segment of the trail include its path alongside an active train line and its passing in close proximity to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Another trail section begins in Agawam, just south of the South End Bridge, and continues for 1.7 miles between River Road and the Connecticut River, offering scenic views of the waterway. It ends on the eastern side of Borgati Park, just north of Six Flags New England.
The goal and final vision for this Riverway is a 21 mile path along the river.
