ABOUT THE OVERNIGHT: The Out of the Darkness Overnight Walk is the flagship fundraising event for The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). AFSP is the leading national not-for-profit organization exclusively dedicated to understanding and preventing suicide through research, education and advocacy, and to reaching out to people with mental disorders and those impacted by suicide. WHAT IS THE BIKE CREW: Dozens of bicyclists that provide crucial support to the Walkers along their journey. Roles include:

  • Riding alongside Walkers to ensure their safety along the route
  • Communicating safety, health, crowd, and traffic situations to Road Dispatch 
  • Maintaining Walker safety at intersections 
  • Acting as the leader or the caboose for Walkers

Bike Crew members must be able to slowly bike 18+ miles with frequent stops.

You'll receive training to prepare you for Walk weekend, t-shirts, meals, but most importantly, a chance to join a community of thousands who will be saving lives.

WHEN: Saturday, June 22 - Sunday, June 23

WHERE: Start and end in downtown Boston

  • Please note: Bike Crew members work the entire event, starting between 2-4pm on the day of the Walk and finish after Closing Ceremonies at 5am.
