Take a Virtual Ride Along the Somerville Community Path Extension

After years of championing, Boston-area biking and walking advocates scored a huge victory in April when MassDOT, the MBTA, and the City of Somerville announced that funding for the extension of the Somerville Community Path would included as part of the Green Line Extension Project. MassBike has been actively campaigning for the Community Path to be extended since the beginning of planning for the Green Line Extension project.

The biking and walking advocacy community recognizes that this path will be a game-changer. Once this 1.9 mile section of path is complete and linked with planned bridges across the Charles River, it will create a family-friendly active transportation corridor stretching all the way from Bedford to downtown Boston.

To add to the excitement, MassDOT just released a video of a virtual ride along the proposed path extension. The video starts in the vicinity of the relocated Lechmere Station, then heads northwest along a series of bridges and underpasses through the new Green Line extension, eventually meeting the current terminus of the Community Path at Lowell Street in Somerville.
