Meet Alex our E-Bike Grant Manager
This year, MassBike was awarded grant funding through the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center’s (MassCEC) new Accelerating Clean Transportation for All (ACT4All) Program to conduct a 2-year program to distribute electric bicycles and track their usage amongst select populations in Worcester. The new program means MassBike’s team has grown to include our new E-Bike Grant Manager, Alex Salcedo. She will be leading our e-bike program and forging community partnerships throughout Worcester.
Alex was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador, and relocated to Worcester, MA, in 2010, to pursue her graduate studies. Not being familiar with Massachusetts, biking allowed her to get out of her comfort zone and start building community, by getting familiar with neighbors and neighborhoods. This translated throughout the years into establishing working relationships with organizations and businesses that contribute to the community’s well-being. For her, opting for a bike instead of a car is a win for everyone: cleaner air, less traffic, and a healthier world.
We asked Alex three questions to learn a little more about her.
What role have bicycles played in your life?
Life-changing. Thanks to them, I have wonderful childhood memories. My first bike was yellow, so for me, the feeling of freedom has that color. Through biking, I have met wonderful people who have become friends. As a bonus, biking has allowed me to experience the benefits of being fit.
Why are you excited to be a part of the MassBike team?
I have felt a special connection with everyone since day one. I am excited to learn from their life experiences, where biking has played such an important role. I am also humbled by the opportunity to help the organization grow while doing something fun that benefits us and our planet in many ways.
What are you looking forward to the most for the Worcester E-Bike program?
I hope to help people experience the many benefits of biking: physical, psychological, and environmental.
Alex has been working hard the last few weeks to get the Worcester e-bike program rolling and applications will be launching soon. You can get in touch with Alex by emailing her at [email protected].
